How Do I Know I’ve Found the Right Connection?

Image
So, you've met someone. You enjoy spending time together. The chemistry is there. Conversations are good. Maybe you’re even starting to think, “Could this actually go somewhere?” Then comes the harder question:  How do I know I’ve found the right connection? There probably isn’t one magical moment when you suddenly know. A good connection often reveals itself gradually through your experiences with someone and what they consistently show you over time. Here are a few things worth paying attention to.  You Feel Comfortable Being Yourself Think about who you are around this person. Can you express your thoughts and opinions freely? Can you disagree? Can you be silly, serious, quiet, ambitious, emotional, or simply yourself? Feeling comfortable enough to show up authentically is an important part of building a meaningful connection. Their Words and Actions Match Words matter, and actions give those words meaning. “I’m looking for something serious.” “I really like you.”“I want to...

Why Do We Overthink: How to Get Out of the “What If” Cycle

Why Do We Overthink?  Overthinking can feel productive because your brain is trying to protect you. If you can anticipate every possible outcome, maybe you can prevent something bad from happening. But there is a difference between problem-solving and worrying. Problem-solving asks: “What can I do about this?” Worry asks: “But what if…?” again and again. Research-supported approaches to anxiety, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), help people notice unhelpful thinking patterns, question them, and change how they respond. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) also helps people become less controlled by anxious thoughts and focus on meaningful action instead.  Try This When You Catch Yourself Overthinking 1. Name what is happening.  Simply tell yourself:  “I’m overthinking this.” You don’t have to solve every thought that enters your mind. 2. Separate facts from fears.  What do I actually know right now? Then ask:  What am I predicting, assuming, ...

Understanding Anxiety: When Worry Starts Taking Up Too Much Space

Image
Most of us know what anxiety feels like! Your mind starts racing. You replay a conversation. You think about everything that could go wrong. Your body feels tense. You can’t seem to relax, even when you know you’re probably overthinking. Anxiety is a normal human experience. We may feel anxious before an important meeting, while waiting for medical results, during a major life transition, or when we’re facing uncertainty. But sometimes anxiety starts taking up too much space. What Does Anxiety Feel Like? Anxiety doesn’t look the same for everyone. It can show up in your thoughts, emotions, body, and behavior. You might notice: Constant worrying or overthinking Feeling restless or “on edge” Difficulty concentrating Irritability Trouble falling or staying asleep Muscle tension, headaches, or stomach discomfort A racing heart or feeling short of breath Avoiding situations because they make you anxious Frequently needing reassurance from other people Expecting something to go wrong, even...

What Should You Do When You Constantly Feel Distressed in Your Relationship?

Image
Every relationship has difficult seasons. You will disagree, disappoint each other, misunderstand each other, and occasionally wonder why your partner can’t see something that seems obvious to you. But constantly feeling distressed in your relationship is different. If you regularly feel anxious, emotionally drained, resentful, lonely, confused, or on edge around your partner, don’t dismiss it as simply “relationships are hard.” Your distress is information. The question is: What is it telling you? Identify the Pattern:  When you’re upset, it’s easy to focus on what happened yesterday. Instead, zoom out. Ask yourself: What do we keep fighting about? How do I typically feel before, during, and after conflict? Do problems actually get resolved, or do we repeatedly return to them? Do I feel heard when I express a concern? Have things improved, stayed the same, or gotten worse? One bad week doesn’t define a relationship. A persistent pattern deserves your attention. Look...

Dating in the 21st Century: An Intentional Dating Framework

Image
Dating today can feel like having endless options with very little clarity. Dating apps have made it easier to meet people, but easier access, as we know, doesn’t always lead to meaningful connections. Intentional dating offers a different approach. It means being clear about what you want, paying attention to what someone consistently shows you, and making dating decisions that align with your values.   Start with Yourself:  Before asking, “Is this person right for me?” ask yourself: What kind of relationship am I looking for? What values matter most to me? What are my non-negotiables? Where can I be flexible? What patterns from previous relationships do I want to avoid repeating? You really don’t need a 30-item checklist. In fact, an overly specific list can make you focus on characteristics that have little to do with the quality of a relationship.  Know your core values , your relationship goals , and a few genuine dealbreakers . Date the Person in Front of You:...

ADHD IS MORE THAN BEING DISTRACTED

ADHD Is More Than Being Distracted: Understanding ADHD in Everyday Life When people hear ADHD/ADD , they often think about someone who cannot sit still or gets distracted easily. But Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can affect much more than attention. It can influence how you organize your day, manage time, start and finish tasks, control impulses, and keep up with everyday responsibilities. For many adults, ADHD doesn’t always look like ADHD. What Does ADHD Look Like? ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition involving persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity and/or impulsivity. Symptoms begin during childhood, although some people aren’t diagnosed until adulthood.  In everyday life, ADHD might look like: Putting off a task even though you genuinely want to complete it Starting several projects but struggling to finish them Frequently losing your phone, keys, wallet, or other items Underestimating how long things will take Forgetting appointments or re...
